Songs for Imaginative People – Darwin Deez (Lucky Number (Pop))

I’m a sucker for Deez. This is the kind of catchy I can deal with; diesel fuel behind a damaged engine, ‘quarky’ fuzz up the wazoo. Most songs have a twist that pops out from the sometimes monotonous minor sevenths and compudrums, and usually that’s what pushes them into the ‘adorable’ category. Darwin may be trying to evolve too quickly in the production, however. I don’t think he’s prepared to make the album that Songs is meant to be. Lovable, ambitious, amped, but sometimes falls flat. Definitely recommended. – Will Doran, 3/4/13
