Weaves & Palehound to play Valentine’s Day at Basement East – TICKET GIVEAWAY

WRVU is excited to announce that we’re giving away tickets to the upcoming Weaves show! Weaves broke into the Toronto scene after lead singer Jasmyn Burke and guitarist Morgan Waters met in 2013 at one of Burke’s solo shows in which she was relying on a looping sampler to accompany herself. Burke and Waters immediately began writing music, and brought on bassist Zach Bines and drummer Spencer Cole to propel Weaves, newly minted, into the heart of the Toronto indie music scene.

SZA’s Ctrl, released June 9th, 2017 on Top Dawg Entertainment, is widely about the endless personal journey towards understanding and balance in life. SZA, born Solána Rowe, writes about her own personal challenges, blessings and limitations and how they’ve each shaped her ability to maintain her autonomy. Reflecting on the advice and support of her mother and grandmother, provided for listeners in the form of audio clips interspersed throughout the length of the album, SZA navigates tides of uncertainty.

I was justifiably skeptical in my approach Marathon Music Works for Miike Snow’s return to Nashville after their three year hiatus to pursue personal projects. My sentiment was further warped upon waiting in line to receive my ticket and photo pass, when I was eavesdropping on a woman behind me that was ‘desperately in need of a sitter.’ It was in that instant that I was struck with the realization that I was utterly companionless, afloat in a sea of financial-independence. The late-twenty to late-thirty-year old crowd filled up all the space around me and I buckled in to receive whatever was coming my way.
